in some scenarios, you may need to define a composite role —a role whose membership is based on a combination of other existing roles this allows you to build logical groupings of users, such as combining multiple departments or locations into a single, manageable role for notifications, approvals, or access control steps open activate studio create a new role within the roles section add a members parameter with a type of xml open the members parameter use the interface to add roles and logical operators (and, or, not) to define the membership logic use cases a customer requires a role that includes all users who are members of both the auckland location and the it department —for example, to notify them of system outages a customer wants a role that includes all users who belong to auckland or wellington locations example in this example, a site uses subsidiary and department based roles a composite role is created to include all members of a specific subsidiary role who belong to any of the listed locations
