Access Control Lists
All Activate objects and parameters have Access Control Lists that control the access to the object. This works in a similar way to the Window File System or Active Directory.
Standard Rights
All objects have the following standard rights
- Create - the right to create child objects
- Read - the ability to read child objects and parameters
- Write - the ability to change properties and parameters of the object
- Delete - the ability to delete the object
Access Control Lists
Each ACL contains a list of Access Control Entries (ACE). These Ace's can be either 'Allow' or 'Deny' aces.
WARNING: Access Deny aces are very powerful and override all aother access and should be used with extreme caution.
Each ACE specifies
- Trustee - the role that the security applies to (Note users cannot be give access only Activate Roles)
- Ace Type - Allow or Deny
- Rights - The specific rights granted or denied to the trustee
Activate Administrator displays coloured padlocks on each Activate object that has security applied to it.
No padlock = Inherited security only
Yellow = Inherited + Local Security
Red = Broken Inheritance, Local Security
Extended Security Rights
A number of Activate objects also have extended security rights. These extended rights are object specific and used to control different aspects of the object.
These extended rights are common across most objects:
- USE - the ability to use the specified object. (For example, on Services this allows the user to use the service)
-
- On Tasks USE is EXECUTE
- CREATE INSTANCE - the ability to create an instance of the object. For example, on services this is the ability to create a service instance.
- UPDATE INSTANCE - the ability to update details on an instance of the object.
- DELETE INSTANCE - the ability to delete an instance of the object.
