**Activate Studio** includes a **Verify Tool** that recursively scans Activate configuration to identify and optionally rename invalid parameters.

### Examples of issues the Verify Tool checks for:

- References to deleted AD objects: Users, Groups, Distribution Lists, Organizational Units (OUs)
- References to deleted or unpublished Activate configuration objects
- Any script parameters that have invalid syntax.

## How to Use

1. **Open Activate Studio**.
2. In the **Explorer** pane, right-click on any **top-level node** — such as **Roles**, **Services**, **Assets**, **Resources**, or **Tasks** — or on any **child configuration node**.
3. Select **All Tasks > Verify** from the context menu.
4. Choose from the available options in the Verify Tool dialog and click **OK** to run the verification on the selected node and all its descendants.

Any issues found will be displayed in the **Task List** pane.

## Verify Options Explained

### Scripts

- Compiles any **Script** parameter to ensure it is syntactically correct.
- Scripts that fail to compile are logged for review but are not changed.

### Active Directory Objects

- Verifies references to:
  - Groups
  - Distribution Lists (DLs)
  - Folders
  - Users
  - Organizational Units (OUs)
- If the referenced AD object is **deleted**, the reference is logged for review, as the reference will fail in Activate Tasks.
- If the object is found by **GUID** but has moved to another OU, the parameter’s AD path is updated.
- **Note:**
  AD object references store:
  - Display Name (as shown in Activate Studio)
  - GUID
  - Distinguished Name

### Object References

- Verifies references to other Activate objects, such as:
  - Services
  - Tasks

### Unpublished Items

- Also verifies **unpublished Activate objects**.

## Auto Fix Options

| Option                                     | Description                                                                                                 |
| ------------------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Rename Active Directory References**     | If the object can’t be found, the parameter name is prefixed with `_verify_`.                               |
| **Rename Invalid Object References**       | If the Activate object can't be found, the parameter name is prefixed with `_verify_`.                      |
| **Rename References to Unpublished Items** | If the parameter references an unpublished Activate object, the parameter name is prefixed with `_verify_`. |

## Additional Options

- **Verbose**: Enables additional logging for the verification process.

## Notes

- The Verify Tool is **context sensitive**: behavior may vary based on the node you right-clicked to launch the tool.
- Special cases where the **configuration node itself references an AD object**:
  - `//Resources/Distribution Lists`
  - `//Resources/Groups`

In these cases, if the **Active Directory Objects** option is checked, the reference to the associated DL or Group is verified.
