This guide outlines the steps required to successfully upgrade the **Activate** platform, including preparatory actions, upgrade execution, and post-upgrade validation.

## 1. Planning the Upgrade

Before initiating the upgrade, ensure that all **required software and platform versions** are compatible.  Refer to [Server Requirements](docId\:CTaD-DidhfGqVDqfA0E4F) to ensure requirements are still met.

### Recommended Preparatory Steps

To ensure you have a rollback option in case of issues:

- Back up the Activate Database
- Create a snapshot of the Activate Server that is being upgraded

## 2. Performing the Upgrade

### Pre-Upgrade Checklist

Before starting the upgrade:

- Confirm you are the **only user logged into the Activate Server**
- **Close all instances of Activate Studio** on the server
- **Perform a full SQL backup** of the Activate Database
- **Download the latest installer** from the [Activate Support Portal](https://activate.activateiam.com)

### Upgrade Process

1. **Copy the installer** to the Activate Server
2. **Extract the installer ZIP** to a temporary location
3. Navigate to the `ActivateInstaller` folder and run `ActivateInstaller.exe`with **elevated (Administrator) privileges**
4. In the installer:
   - Select **Activate Server**
   - Select the **current instance to upgrade**
   - Click **Upgrade Instance**
   - Follow the prompts in the installation wizard to complete the process

### Post-Upgrade Steps

After the upgrade is completed:

- Review and resolve any **verification errors or prompts**
- Check for any `System_`** parameters** that may require attention
- Open the **Task List **in** Activate Studio** to review any warnings or required follow-up actions
