Unable to Login Automatically

## Issue

When attempting to log in to Activate, the following error may be displayed:

:::BlockQuote
\{
&#x20; "message": "Unable to login automatically \[ActivateAdmin\@3x2gd0.onmicrosoft.com]"
}
:::

The username shown in the error will vary depending on the affected user.

There are multiple causes for this error. The two resolutions below cover common scenarios.

## Option 1: Run an Azure Sync

### Cause

This error can occur when the user attempting to authenticate is **not present in the Activate cache**.

Activate is therefore unable to match the authenticated user and complete the automatic login process.

### Resolution

Run an **Azure Sync** to refresh the user information available to Activate.

After the Azure Sync has completed:

1. Confirm that the sync completed successfully.
2. Retry the login.
3. Confirm that the user can now log in automatically.

If the issue persists, check that the affected user is included within the scope of the Azure Sync and that the sync completed without errors.

## Option 2: Configure Anonymous Paths for Activate Anywhere

### Cause

When using **Activate Anywhere**, the error can also occur if required application resources are being redirected to authentication instead of being served anonymously.

Anonymous path support was added in **Activate 8.3.6** to allow specific Activate Web assets to be accessed through Activate Anywhere without authentication.

### Resolution

Ensure you are running **Activate 8.3.6 or later**, then update:

Resources/Configuration/External Web/RemoteAccess

Add the following anonymous path configuration:

:::BlockQuote
\<anonymousPaths>
&#x20;   \<path enabled="true">/manifest.json\</path>
&#x20;   \<path enabled="true">/favicon.ico\</path>
&#x20;   \<path enabled="true">/android-chrome-192x192.png\</path>
\</anonymousPaths>
:::

Restart or apply the relevant Activate configuration changes as required, then retry the login.

These paths allow the required application assets to be accessed without being redirected through the authentication process.

## If the Issue Persists

If the **"Unable to login automatically"** error continues after trying the appropriate resolution:

- Confirm the user exists in the Activate cache.
- Run an Azure Sync and confirm it completes successfully.
- If using Activate Anywhere, confirm the anonymous paths are configured.
- Confirm the environment is running Activate 8.3.6 or later when using anonymous path support.
- Check that the identity shown in the error matches the expected user account.

If these checks do not resolve the issue, further investigation of the authentication flow may be required.
