# Testing the Installation

After completing the installation, perform the following basic tests to confirm that Activate is operating correctly.

:::hint{type="info"}
Ensure you are logged onto the Activate Server using the same account that performed the installation. This account must be an Activate Administrator, typically through membership in the designated Active Directory group.

## Verify the Web Portal

1. Open a web browser and navigate to the site URL that matches the SSL certificate used during installation.
   - If you used the **self-signed certificate** option, use:
2. Confirm that the Activate Web Portal loads successfully.
   - The first load may take slightly longer than usual as services initialize.
3. If you encounter any errors, use the **Search** function to look up guidance for the specific error message.

## Verify the Orchestrator

The Orchestrator service is responsible for running workflows and processing automation tasks in Activate.
This test confirms that the Orchestrator component is installed and communicating correctly with the database and Web Portal.

1. From the home screen, click the **Knowledge Base** tile.
2. On the toolbar, click **Create Article**.
3. Enter a **Title**, **Description**, and **Text** for the new article.
4. Click **Next**.
5. Click **Submit Request**.
6. Open up Activate Studio and see if the job has been submitted and moves to a status of Complete successfully.
7. If you encounter any errors, use the **Search** function to look up guidance for the specific error message.
