Activate supports shared mailbox management across multiple Microsoft Exchange deployment models. This flexibility ensures that organisations can standardise mailbox management regardless of their infrastructure.

## Cloud-Only (Exchange Online)

- Fully supports Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online environments.
- Leverages modern APIs and cloud-native features for mailbox provisioning, permission management, and lifecycle automation.
- Integration with Activate is seamless via Graph API and Exchange Online PowerShell.

## Hybrid Environments

- Supports hybrid Exchange setups where mailboxes exist both on-premises and in Exchange Online.
- Activate can:
  - Provision shared mailboxes in the appropriate environment.
  - Manage permissions across both on-prem and cloud mailboxes.
  - Synchronise attributes via Azure AD Connect where applicable.

Hybrid-specific considerations like mail flow coexistence and permission replication are handled during configuration.

## On-Premises Exchange

- Activate supports on-premises Exchange environments (Exchange 2016, 2019).
- Capabilities include:
  - Provisioning and deprovisioning of shared mailboxes.
  - Managing mailbox permissions using on-premises Exchange Management Shell (EMS).
  - Auditing changes and permissions via Activate’s logging system.
