This document explains how Role searching works in Activate, including current limitations and newer capabilities for filtering Roles using attributes beyond the Role name.

# Overview

Role search behaviour in Activate is designed to prioritise performance and predictable results. For this reason, direct searching is limited to a defined set of fields rather than all Role attributes.

# Current Behaviour

In current released versions, Roles can only be searched using the **Name** attribute.

It is not possible to directly search for Roles based on other parameters, such as address values or custom Role attributes.

# Enhanced Filtering Capability

From Activate version 8.3 onwards, select controls support enhanced filtering based on configured parameter values.

This allows Roles to be filtered using additional attributes, including:

- DisplayName
- Other configured Role parameters

This functionality is implemented at the select control level and enables more flexible Role selection within forms.

# Scope and Limitations

- Behaviour in versions prior to v8.3 remains unchanged
- Filtering applies only to select controls, not to global or free-text Role search
- Available parameters depend on how the Role is configured
