Activate includes a feature that allows an **Administrator** to resume a Job that has stalled or failed. This functionality is particularly useful when a job fails due to temporary infrastructure issues or when re-running the entire workflow is not practical. By default, only **Activate Administrators** have permission to resume Jobs.

## Example: Resuming a “Create User” Job

A failed *Create User* Job can occur for a number of reasons — for example, an infrastructure dependency such as an Exchange Server being temporarily unavailable.

Rather than restarting the entire workflow, the Administrator can resume the Job from a specific Workflow step, skipping earlier steps if necessary.

This approach is often used:

- When time or other constraints prevent a full job resubmission
- For testing or troubleshooting individual steps
- After resolving an underlying issue, to allow the Job to continue to completion

## Steps to Resume a Job

1. **Locate the failed Job**
In the Activate Web Portal, open **Request History** or search for the specific Job number.
2. **Select Resume Job**
From the menu ribbon, choose **Resume Job**.
3. **Choose a Workflow Step**
Select the step where the Job should resume from.
You may skip earlier steps if they have already completed successfully.
4. **Review and Submit**
Review the Job details, then click **Submit** to create a new Resume Job.
5. **Monitor Progress**
The Resume Job task will run and submit a new job that is a clone of the original job but with instructions to resume from the specified step. The new resumed job will have a different job ID from the original job but will reference the original job in the arguments.
