Activate provides a **maintenance mode** to temporarily make the system unavailable. This is useful during:

- Large releases or upgrades.
- Times when you need to prevent users from interacting with the web portal.

### Configuration Steps

1. Set the `AvailableUsers`parameter to the **role** allowed to access Activate during maintenance (e.g., Administrators or a dedicated maintenance role).
2. **Recycle the application pool** for changes to take effect.

### Default Unavailable Page

The out-of-the-box **UnavailablePage** form parameter provides a simple notice that the system is in maintenance mode. You can customise this to fit your organisation's requirements.

### Important Notes

- Users in the **AvailableUsers** role:
 - Can still access Activate during maintenance.
 - Can **impersonate other users** not in this role (if they have rights).
- Any direct links to Activate will redirect to the **UnavailablePage** unless the user is part of an allowed role.
- **Inbound APIs are not disabled** by maintenance mode. They continue functioning unless the maintenance activity impacts them.
- **AvailableUsers roles can be static or dynamic**, depending on your requirements.

Use maintenance mode for controlled downtime without disabling system-wide processes such as APIs.
