overview this error occurs when activate is unable to locate a valid exchange server resource associated with a given distinguished name (dn) this is typically due to a missing or misconfigured identityprovider reference in the exchange server resource configuration root cause each exchange server resource in activate must include a reference parameter named identityprovider this parameter links the exchange server to the appropriate external directory (e g , azure ad or on prem active directory) without this reference, activate cannot resolve which exchange server (and associated credentials) to use for a given object how to fix it to resolve this issue, follow these steps locate the exchange server resource go to //resources/exchange servers/office365 (or the relevant exchange resource for your environment) add the identityprovider reference parameter create a new reference parameter named identityprovider set its value to point to the appropriate external directory resource for example =//resources/active directory/external directories/azure save and validate save the configuration ensure that the reference is valid and points to an existing identity provider resource under //resources/active directory/external directories why this matters the identityprovider reference is essential for resolving which exchange server to use for a given dn accessing the correct credentials and connection settings ensuring successful synchronization and communication with exchange
