Activate allows you to configure additional trace options to output enhanced system messages to either the **Windows Event Log** or to a **log file**. This can assist with advanced troubleshooting and auditing.

## Enabling Additional Trace Options

1. **Open the Configuration File**
   - Locate and open:

     ```text
     Innovation.Activate.trace.config
     ```
   - Use Notepad or another text editor.
2. **Configure Event Sources**
   - Find the `<eventSource>` entries within `<availableEventSources>`.
   - Copy the desired `<eventSource>` entries into either:
     - `<eventLog>` section for Windows Event Log output, or
     - `<file>` section for file-based logging.
3. **Enable Logging**
   - Set the `enabled` attribute on either the `<eventLog>` or `<file>` tag to:

     ```text
     enabled="1"
     ```
4. **File Output (Optional Settings)**
   - If outputting to a **file**, ensure:
     - `name` attribute is set to define the file name.
     - `maxSize` attribute is set to control maximum file size.

## Available Event Sources

| **AD Access**       | Logs all access to Active Directory                  |
| **AD Security**     | Logs all Active Directory security checks            |
| **Config**          | Logs detailed trace of configuration actions         |
| **Error**           | Logs runtime errors                                  |
| **Evaluation**      | Logs detailed trace of parameter evaluations         |
| **Exchange**        | Logs detailed trace of Exchange 2000 operations      |
| **Execute**         | Logs all Job Service execution messages              |
| **Internal**        | Logs detailed trace of internal errors               |
| **Information**     | General informational logging                        |
| **Job**             | Logs job event messages                              |
| **Resource**        | Logs detailed trace of resource usage                |
| **Script**          | Logs detailed trace of scripting activities          |
| **Search**          | Logs detailed trace of Active Directory search logic |
| **Service**         | Logs detailed trace of all Service operations        |
| **Task Parameter**  | Logs detailed trace of task parameter evaluations    |
| **User.Membership** | Logs user membership checks and information          |
