To integrate with Microsoft 365 services, Activate connects to **Microsoft Entra ID** (formerly Azure Active Directory). This connection underpins the management of core identity and collaboration functions, including:

- **User provisioning** – creating and managing user accounts in Entra ID
- **Distribution lists (DLs)** – managing membership and ownership
- **Shared mailboxes** – provisioning and delegating access
- **Microsoft Teams** – creating teams and managing membership

Activate requires an **App Registration** in your Entra ID tenant to establish this connection. The registered application defines the permissions Activate can use when calling the **Microsoft Graph API** or when executing supported PowerShell operations.

Your organisation’s environment setup — whether **hybrid with on-premises Active Directory synchronised to Entra ID** or **cloud-only Entra ID** — determines which Activate features are available and how they must be configured.
